There are lots of folks who have leaky petcocks but they are able to fix them readily and inexpensively with a rebuild kit. For gas to end up in the engine oil, two things need to fail. First, the petcock must fail and let fuel into the carb when the bike is shut off. Second, the carb float valve must fail.

VTX's Do require a higher idle than a HD. You don't want an X to sound like a HD. Yes, there are 2 drain bolts and both must be removed to fully drain the oil. The bike should be on the kickstand to drain fully. You can sit on it and rock it back and forth a bit but it should drain from the kickstand. If you did all this, it should take 4 qts. It's called diesel oil but also carries automotive ratings. I've seen the 0W-40 and think it's marketed as T5 and I couldn't find the JASO rating on it.The rear end is designed that way, You will break the plug long before you damage the threads on the rear final drive. The plug is $6.00 to$7.00 and the O-ring is about $2.50. I have not broke mine (yet). This can be caused by various things including low oil level, failed oil pump, blocked oil passages and a failed oil pressure sensor. Running an engine when the oil pressure light is on is a recipe for disaster.
