Dasher waiting for order.

Both Doordash and you (when you use the service) are my customers. You both share the responsibility of paying me for my service which is the actual delivery of the items you purchased from the restaraunt, using the Doordash online marketplace. If you don't pay me for the work I did for you, that's very shitty of you.Now the name on the order says Leonaldo. I thought it was odd because it had said Hector was already at the restaurant waiting for the order. After another 5 mins or so, I get a message from Leonaldo informing me someone else has picked up the order, and that the restaurant told him it had been received when he got there.Meh. Where I work, if we keep stuff near the counter for pickup, it will get stolen 75% of the time. But, if I see a dasher (and it’s always clear that it’s a dasher, they’re showing the screen/order) I take a moment from what I’m doing to get them their order without waiting. When y’all have to wait, it reflects badly on the business.Most dashers will not accept no tip orders so not doing it upon ordering will probably cause a very long wait. Door Dash only pay dasher $2-2.50 depending on the area. Removing the tip will also not help bc the dasher will still get the tip. Door Dash just eats the loss.

If it’s 3-4 dollar order, you may be waiting a while until a top dasher accepts. Top dashers are the ones who care about their acceptance rate. Which has zero impact on being deactivated because we are ultimately independent contractors and have a right to pick and choose what orders we take. Probably 8/10 of my deliveries in the past 6 months have followed the same pattern: (1) order with estimated delivery time at X, (2) around the time rhe order was due at X dasher messages that he is at the restaurant waiting for food, (3) 30-90 minutes later food is finally picked up, (4) delivery of cold food.

The restaurants asks you to cancel the order after you’ve arrived. You arrive to a closed restaurant. Note that these scenarios have a two things in common: you arrived at the restaurant and you have not picked up the order yet. For Situation 1, the dasher app will automatically remove the order and give you your Half Pay.

Yeah so here's a theory, he/she accepted your order, while picking it up, DD threw them another order to pick up and deliver before yours. Happened to me today actually. However it became very noticeable likely because the 2nd pickup merchant probably sucked and took a long time, hence when DD was showing you "dasher picking up another order".

The restaurants give DD an estimate for how long the order will take, then prioritize ‘walk in’ orders-poor business practice, in my opinion. PS- if one Dasher declines your order because of wait time, then another is assigned right away, probably arriving just in time as the order is finished to deliver it to you.
