Alcohol is OK as a Final Wipe, but not OK by itself to prep for paint or after sanding. I always wipe down with Wax and Grease remover before painting and sometimes follow it up with alcohol after the remover before paint. Also if the gun hasn't been used much, run a few oz of lacquer thinner through the gun before spraying paint with it.
