I don't know where you got this idea but spool valve assembly for 06 (15810-RKB-J01 ) is $500+ just for the part (MSRP for the part is apparently $722 - from hondapartsnow.com) so $950 while a bit on the high side, isn't WAY out of the line considering they will most likely not get the parts online and have to warranty the work.

For your sake, I hope it is the gasket shown as #12 and not the internal spool valve gasket. The internal gasket failed on my 2007 and there is no available replacement short of replacing the entire spool valve.

Had to get an oil change and ended up going to the dealer - on their inspection they said there's a leak on the bank 2 rocker arm oil control valve. Quoted me $722 for the replacement.
