The area was originally named the Derden Wildlife Management Area after Milze L. Derden, from whom much of this land was purchased. The area was renamed in 1952 after Gus A. Engeling, the first biologist assigned to the area, was shot and killed by a poacher on December 13, 1951.These positions are based at Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area (WMA) that receive direct supervision from a Technician Supervisor. These positions are responsible for performing tasks associated with the daily operation of Pointe-aux-Chenes, Lake Boeuf, Salvador, Timken and Pass-a-Loutre WMAs and Queen Bess Refuge.The USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) publishes a set of the most commonly used topographic maps of the U.S. called US Topo that are separated into rectangular quadrants that are printed at 22.75"x29" or larger.
