This gearing was selected to give use better performance in first to forth gear but still allow us to lower our cruising RPMs slightly in 5th.

Re: 2.9 to 4.0 swap questions. it should be pretty much unbolt from one, bolt into the other. you'll have all the wiring, mounts, hoses, etc. your 2.9 trans will work, but probably not for long. the 2.9 trans isn't made for the torque of the 4.0. i would recommend just running the 4.0 trans or find a 5 speed for a 4.0.Ford switched from a 6-bolt crankshaft boss to an 8-bolt in 95 But, any 4.0 will be great, as long as it has low-ish miles (valve tick on cold starts was common with 4.0's, usually starting to happen at 150,000-200,000 miles.) You will also need the motor mounts for a 4.0, because the mounts bolt to the engine differently than the 2.9.
