I have owned - and do own - both Alvarez and Yamaha 'A' series guitars (not the 'L'). Both are in the 'best value' category - with Alvarez leaning a little more toward the traditional sound of American guitars. The MD70 is a great-for-money guitar, but is is not the 'same' as a D28.
