The crafted gear does provide an extra blade and trap for your school however. Wintertusk has nearly the exact same damage as ww, but lower in resistance. But you said you struggle with survivability so I'm not quite sure whether you should use wintertusk or not.

Waterworks is a 100% essential to have, the struggle is very much worth it. The playstyles you can come up with. You can wear the full set or pieces from other gear you still get good stats. For your level, there is not really a lot of good decks that the best to go for but house of scales has that 1 accuracy deck, wait till 70 for Poseidon dungeon the sand squid drops that fire giant deck that's pretty good. Either way I use a deck that has lots of death copies. I am not the type of person who can get 6 archmage or promethean in two months and i'm positive i'm not alone. I saw professor greyrose's reply to another waterworks gear complaint saying "Nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight." Waterworks Gear is really just decent gear that worked for a few worlds until Hades gear came out. There's absolutely no reason to nerf it, it's really not all that great anyways. It's only slightly better than Wintertusk crafted gear. I skipped getting WW gear on my latest wizard and it didn't hurt me at all.
